For this assignment, you will review current business news (within 3 months of the date you submit the assignment) and review articles that pertain to topics discussed in the course.(i.e. “synergy”, “leadership syyles”, “Communication among employees and management”, “Leadership or Managing teams/organization”) Make sure you find articles which offer enough substance to write an appropriate review (i.e., avoid “pedestrian” or “fluff” business news). Suggested sources include the Wall Street Journal, Workforce Week,, Businessweek Magazine, etc.
Grading Criteria:
Write a clear statement demonstrating you read the article and understood its significance. DO NOT merely summarize the story. There are many ways in which you could review the article such as:
• put the discussion in context of something we covered in class (leadership, communication, creating structure among groups, synergy)
• put the discussion in context of something you have experienced in the workplace or another environment
• raise questions or arguments not directly addressed by the article
This is not a comprehensive list of how to review the article, just a few suggestions. Feel free to get creative. If you can demonstrate that you read the article and understood it and turn in a well-written review you will get full credit. The review must exceed one page, double-spaced, 1” margins, 12-point font.
*Please remember to include a link to or a copy of the article you are reviewing. If you cannot provide a copy, make sure you provide the means for me to retrieve the article easily (i.e., citation and a link to the database, etc.). Reviews that do not meet the above criteria for full credit, yet still demonstrate that you read the article will receive ½ point. Reviews that are very poorly written, merely summarize the article, are written about an article that is not substantive/related to the course material, or fail to prove that you personally read the news story will receive 0 points.
