This document provides instructions on how to create a written assignment in this course. Be sure you have practiced creating a written assignment in the SLN Student Orientation BEFORE you attempt to submit your first graded assignment.

Composing your assignment

Normally, you should compose your response using your word processor or on paper. This will give you the opportunity to revise, proofread, and spell check. When you have completed your answer, return to the assignment document and click the “Create Assignment” button at the bottom of the page. Follow the instructions for entering text.

Make sure to read the directions for each assignment carefully for details on required length of your assignment, due dates, and any thing else that may be specific to the assignment.

Ways to move your work to the “Written assignment” form

There are several options for generating and submitting your written assignment. Choose the option you feel most comfortable with (read more about each in the SLN Student Orientation). You can:
Type directly on-line in the assignment form field (a box that allows you to type directly in it), Work on your word processor, then “copy and paste” the contents from your open word processing document into the online form field, or Work on a word processor, save the file as an .rtf file, then “attach” the assignment as a file using the fields at the bottom of the Written Assignment page. See the SLN Student Orientation for complete instructions on using file attachments.
Submitting your written assignment

Click the “Submit” button at the bottom of the page to submit your assignment. Before you can submit your assignment, you must select one of the following:

Private save (your professor cannot see your work; use this option if you are not finished; to continue working on your assignment, click the Edit button on the document).

Save for professor (submits your work to the professor; only you and the professor can see your assignment. You will not be able to “Edit” your document).

Save for class (your assignment is public for the entire class to read. DO NOT USE THIS OPTION UNLESS INSTRUCTED BY YOUR PROFESSOR).

Evaluations

The evaluation for your assignment will appear directly under your document. Evaluations are private and can only be read by the student and professor.

Signs of the Zodiac
Twelve constellations ,which the Sun crosses in its path across the ecliptic ,are considered the constellations of the zodiac – Well really 13 – when you were born the Sun was crossing one of these constellations. Your Sun-sign is predominantly used to create your horoscope. However if you add in the 13th constellation, Ophiuchus, your sign may have changed.

Research this constellation, where it is located relative to the other constellations, how it changes the dates and why it has been around for thousands of years and never used. Note the 13 constellations are related to sidereal months. Discuss with your classmates how you would likely feel if the 13 constellations of the zodiac were adopted by the Astrological community.

STEP 2: Conduct a PHONE interview. You may be as creative as you would like for this interview, but you must have permission from your interviewee. STEP 3: You must submit the following paper with your final project:
The pseudonym or name of the person you interviewed, with their age, and the date of the interview A description of your relationship to that person A clear summary of the questions you asked- at least three of the questions must clearly tie back to concepts you learned about in this module (ask about ageism, attitudes towards aging, etc.)
STEP 4: Type a 350-400 words reflection essay addressing the following:
A description of the stage of life the interviewee is in (young-old, middle-old, or old-old) An understanding of how the interviewee perceives the aging process, including attitudes and perceptions about growing old What did you find most interesting or informative about the interview?
