The debate of whether or not videos are considered art has been raging for years. Some take this debate very seriously, but most people aren’t losing any sleep over it. Finding an answer to this question isn’t as relevant as understanding why the question was even asked.
Art has many definitions:

The comparison of art to videogames stems from its impact on culture and society. Can videos define civilization? Can they be appreciated for their beauty or “emotional power”? Are they “of more than ordinary significance?”
For this assignment, you’ll explore why videogames have been compared to art and why the comparison has significance.

Why is the debate of “videogames as art” so heated?
What meaning do videogames bring to our culture?
What games have been “of more than ordinary significance” (meaningful) to society?
Do videogames hold “emotional power?” Why or why not?
If so, has there been a time that a game moved you emotionally?
Do you think videogames are art? Why or why not?
