Assignment Overview
Reflecting on both your successes and your failures is key to your professional growth. In the videogame industry, after a game project is complete, the team will sit down for is called a “postmortem” to discuss what went right, what went wrong, and what significant lessons were learned during the game’s development. They will then use this information to lay the groundwork for their next project and so on, ensuring things are done better each new go around.
For your last and final assignment of the class, you will take part in your own “postmortem” of sorts and reflect on everything you did throughout the course.
Guidelines and Constraints
Write a postmortem and post it below. In at least 600 words answer the following questions:
What Went Right (at least 3-5 different items)
Think about what things were easy for you, times when you felt that you learned something significant, projects that were fun and/or rewarding, situations where communication with others felt smooth and effective, or just any situation where things came together nicely in the end.
What Went Wrong (at least 3-5 different items)
Think about the times where you struggled; situations were you found it hard to communicate your issues, where you couldn’t think of the right solution, where your ideas just fell apart, or when things didn’t go as planned.
Lessons Learned (at least 3-5 different items)
Given all these experiences, both good and bad, what are the most important lessons or concepts that you can take away from this class? What things did you learn, not only about videogames but about culture and society as a whole? How did you overcome the challenges you faced while taking this course? How have your views or perspective of the world changed since the beginning of class? What new skills or concepts can you use in future classes or life in general that you developed during this course? What would you have done differently if you knew what you know now?
