Final paper guidelines
Students should choose their own topic for the final essay from any of the topics discussed during the semester. relevant to the ethics of health care. If you are unsure whether your topic is appropriate, please check with the instructor. The essay is not a narrative, empirical or historical research paper, but rather a philosophical one, or if you like, an analytical essay informed by the required readings (and discussion) and any other relevant supplementary readings the student, in consultation with the instructor consider appropriate. What does writing a philosophical essay mean? It means you have to present an argument and defend it, supporting you claim with evidence and other referenced work. It should also include an objection to your argument and your response.
An example may be helpful here. If you decide to write about assisted suicide your main thesis could look something like this:
“Legalizing assisted physical suicide in all states would uphold the principles of beneficence and non-maleficience.”
To support this thesis you would necessarily need to touch on the ethical principles we have looked at in the course, discuss their significance, the conflicts that may arise, and how these conflicts should be addressed. How should decisions be made? On what sources of knowledge should these decisions be based on? You can use an example to support your argument.
You should refer to at least two authors in your analysis. If using direct quotes please include page numbers, as well as complete citation details.
Word length: 2000 – 2500 words.
An outline for you paper would look something like this:
Introduction
What is the topic of your paper, what position do you want to defend? In this section you should set the context, give some background information. What is the outlay of your paper? What do you intend to do?
Body of the paper
This forms the bulk of your paper and would consist of a series of paragraphs. In this section you would include any background information pertinent to your argument; define any terms which warrant it;provide good reasoning for the position you have taken. Provide an example or quotations from other sources to support your argument. Here too, you would provide an objection to your argument and a response.
Conclusion
In this section you would sum up the main points from your argument.

Write a 800 to 1,050 word paper in which you analyze the work of the secondary responders (i.e., non-law enforcement, such as EPA, Coast Guard, engineers, etc.) in the aftermath of the emergency. Exclude details about police and fire response, as they are primary responders. In your paper:
Detail roles within structured command (ICS). Outline applicable crisis response objectives. Discuss decision-making strategies and challenges faced by leaders in working through the event.

Help me study for my Philosophy class. I’m stuck and don’t understand.
Each student will be responsible for writing two blog posts during the semester (approximately 300-500 words) that relates to the topic of ethics in health care. You will choose an article drawn from a reputable news outlet such as The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Guardian, and others. You should include a link to the article you will be referring to for other students to easily find the article. There are several ways to approach your blog: consider the topic in relation to what we have already been discussing or reading; what is the argument in the article? Do you agree with it? Is it a sound argument? What does it have to do with the ethics of health care? Would an ethical perspective contribute something to the piece? What sort of critique would you offer? Would you suggest another perspective?
Also make a comment on this blog post that is around 200 words long: This is also a good example blog post
This article titled, “The Doctor’s Dilemma” from The Guardian, discusses if it is right for doctors to do harm if it will help the patient. This article dives into several relevant cases that touch on the ethics of the medical field. The article says, “ in one famous instance (Murray v McMurchy, in 1949), while operating on a woman for another purpose, a surgeon tied her fallopian tubes without her consent, because he foresaw that becoming pregnant would be clinically dangerous for her, and that it would also be dangerous for her to undergo two surgical procedures. She sued for negligence and won: it was not disputed that the surgeon was factually correct, in clinical terms, but he had not considered that the patient’s own view of herself and her body were essential to the decision-making process.” (Adshead pg. 1) In this case, the doctor focused on the medical facts, and didn’t take the patients opinion into consideration, even though it was her body that was being operated on. He could have saved this woman’s life because who knows if she would have survived it if she had a kid and didn’t know about her medical problems. This case shows why the medical field is so highly regulated nowadays. Doctors are placed in situations like these ones every day and need to follow the correct code of ethics in order to do their job correctly and efficiently.
