**Read the topics page and choose one to discuss.
Write a syllogism following the template on p. 24 and write a paragraph explaining the premises, including a bibliography please.**
This is the template for your Module 1 syllogism. (Future modules will require
additional premises).
You will begin with a descriptive statement about your topic and its connection to a
morally relevant concept. Just come up with an idea that makes the premises plausibly true.
In the example above, “Eating asparagus causes suffering” is the descriptive premise.
It connects the topic (asparagus) with the morally relevant concept (suffering). The
essay would need to prove that claim empirically (i.e. with researched data), and the
bibliography would indicate where the data came from.
“Causing suffering is immoral” is the normative premise. For this module, a sentence
or two would suffice to explain the moral relevance of suffering.
“Eating asparagus is immoral” is the thesis – it is the point I am trying to prove.
But most importantly, the truth about asparagus aside, the argument follows the Barbara form pattern and so it is valid.
