Analyzed
Are all stakeholders represented? Are they represented accurately?
Use this Assignment Template to help you meet the criteria
Intro
One-two paragraphs that describe your topic, the two media outlets you chose (corporate and
independent), and that makes clear the argument you will make based on your analysis.
Example of argument: “While Media X emphasized the President’s use of tear gas to clear the
June 2 Black Lives Matter protest and his photo op holding a Bible, Media Y emphasized the
idea that the protesters were Antifa activists and blamed the violence on them.
Themes
common to both sources was an absence of voices of people of color and the framing of protesters as potentially criminal or lawless.”
Pro tip: Write the introduction but revise it after you complete the paper so that it captures what you argued in the paper.
Synthesis
Two to three paragraphs in your own words that synthesize and summarize the issue and
coverage you selected from your two sources. Be sure to explain how many articles you
examined.
Analysis
Break down your analysis into themes based on your argument (see above example). Then
write your analysis using these criteria: 1) The headlines used;
2) The primary-source information
used in the coverage; 3) The races, genders or other identities of the various human sources. Are all stakeholders represented? Are they represented accurately? 4) The use of language that gives you a sense of the biases of the articles; 5) The framing and priming of the coverage based on Week 6
reading and discussion. Explain what kind of framing and priming the media sources did, and how it was different or similar. In other words, make the arguments in your analysis match up with your overall argument in the introductions, using your findings and the readings.
Conclusion
