It is common that people will marry somebody smart but smarts has nothing to do with their love. In the movie I am Sam written by Kristine Johnson and Jessie Nelson, the title character (Sam) and his daughter (Lucy) along with many other characters show that love has nothing to do with smarts. In the movie, Sam loved Lucy and had the mind of a seven year old and Rita was very smart but did not love her husband and didn’t show her son any love.

Also in the movie Randy was very smart but did not love Lucy as much as Sam did who had the mind of a seven year old.
Kristine Johnson and Jessie Nelson wrote I am Sam to show that love has nothing to do with smarts. Throughout the story, Sam showed us that he could love Lucy more than anybody else despite the fact that he was mentally challenged. Towards the end of the movie Randy (foster mom) tells Sam that she shouldn’t be the mother of Lucy because she cannot love Lucy like Sam can even through he has the mind of a 7 year old.

For example, when the school social worker told “you have the brain complicity of a seven year old.”
Another scene was when Randy told Sam he should have Lucy because he had much more love for her than she did and Lucy loved him back. These two pieces of evidence show that Sam however having the mind of a seven year old, can still be a better parent to Lucy than Rita can because of the love between Sam and Lucy.
The authors of I am Sam, Kristine Johnson and Jessie Nelson wrote it because they wanted to show us that love has nothing to do with smarts. Sam loved Lucy although having the mind of a 7 year old and Rita although being a very successful lawyer didn’t love her husband.
Also Randy was a very smart person but couldn’t love Lucy the way Sam did. The movie I am Sam written by Jessie Nelson and Kristine Johnson shows us that love has nothing to do with smarts through the experiences of Sam, Lucy, Rita, and Randy. This movie has shown me thatyou can have the mind of a child, be 40 years old, and still love somebody more than another person might who might be a millionaire or a person of high authority.
