A short-typewritten paper (4 pages+) based on your imagined account of your participation in an archaeological excavation of your choice. You will participate in the excavation of any site that inspires you! For this paper you will research the specific information about the culture, the site, the archaeologists involved, their theories and methods of working, the objects and artwork that were found and demonstrate your understanding of the significance of the objects found and what they tell us about the culture under investigation. You can be anyone involved with the excavation. You can be a real person, for example, the lead archaeologist, like Howard Carter (lead excavator for tomb of Tutankhamun), or the sponsor for the expedition like Lord Carnarvon (Tut again), or you can be even write it from the mummy’s point of view. You can be an invented person, maybe a newspaper writer, or an assistant watching the process with the eyes of an inexperienced but very interested party. You will write an imaginative “first-hand “account of the excavation.
The paper should be 4-pages or more, double-spaced, 12 pt. font, 1″ margins.
Include important dates (time object/place was made or found), places, details about its medium (what material is it made from?), important people that either made or discovered. Include a detailed description of the site or object. (What does it look like when it was made? What does it look like now?). Include some information about its historical context (why was it there? why does it look the way it does in context of the culture?).
You will cite all of your sources and such sources are necessary for a complete paper. You are required to use the resources in the school library for your research as well as any additional sources that you choose.
