Locating and defining issues of interest or problems
In this step, the researcher uncovers the nature and boundaries of a situation. He or she develops a question that needs to be answered or studied. In defining these issues, it is important for the researcher to take into account the purpose or intention of the study, relevant background information, the information needed, and how the same information can be used in decision-making.
The next step involves designing the research project
In this step, the main focus is on creating a plan on how the issue of concern is going to be solved. The plan involves the setting of procedures necessary for data collection

The step involves an examination of the data and establishing a conclusion that solves the issue at hand.

An evidence-based practice process is similar to a research process; however, it applies current, best evidence (external and internal scientific evidence), patient perspective, and clinical expertise to make decisions about care that should be offered to the patient (Belay et al., 2020). The steps followed during the EBP process include framing clinical questions; gathering evidence; assessing evidence, and making clinical decisions.
The nursing process refers to a systematic guide to client-centered care. The process also has 5 steps which include assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. The assessment process involves critical thinking skills and data collection. This step is similar to the first step of a research process where a researcher has to think critically about issues that need to be addressed. The second step (diagnosis) employs clinical judgment which is almost similar to the gathering of evidence in the EBP process. The next step is the planning step which is similar to the third step of the research process where the researcher must create a plan on how the topic of interest should be solved. The implementation process is similar to the data collection step of the research process. In both processes, the actual thing involving data collection must be done (Green, 2018). The evaluation stage is similar to making the clinical decision or interpreting research data in EBP and the research process respectively. This step is vital is important in all three processes and involves reassessment or evaluation of the findings to ensure whether the desired outcome has been met.
In general, EBP provides nurses with a method to apply critically appraised and scientifically proven evidence for delivering quality health care to patients. For example, when giving oxygen to patients with COPD, there is a need for nurses to draw or make decisions on the evidence available to understand how to properly give oxygen to patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. This concept should ensure that positive patient outcome is achieved.
