A) Final Essay: Based on the course learning , the final essay is a chance for you to write a feminist manifesto–a message for your past, present or future self, or the people close to your life. The essay is at least 3 FULL pages (no need for a reference page).
What is a feminist manifesto: First of all, the manifesto is a particular genre that addresses the existing social issues/problems and conveys a sense of URGENCY to change the problematic status quo. The feminist manifesto is a public declaration, a straight talk for advertising a feminist transformative approach to the white patriarchal capitalist society. It is also about envisioning and imagining a future where people live without racial and gendered oppression and other forms of social inequalities and exclusion. When writing the manifesto, you are a speaker delivering a persuasive talk to the imagined audience–in this case, the audience could be your past, present, or future self, or people who are close to your life. You are encouraged to express your emotions (anger, enthusiasm, grief, grievance, love, passion, etc) while critically and insightfully reflecting on the structural issues. The essay should critically reflect the course materials while incorporating your own opinion and experiences.
Instructions: In a 3-page essay, you should address at least one topic in your manifesto essay from the following list: intersectionality, gender as a social construct, compulsory heteronormativity, gender policing, body/body politics, LGBTQ issues, violence against women, reproductive justice, care work. Draw from at least 2 and at most 3 sources from the course materials that relate to your topic(s). Using the reading materials, reflect upon the following question:
Mechanics: Use MLA In-text citations from the course sources. A work cited page IS required and should be in MLA or APA format. No outside sources are allowed. Double spaced, Times New Roman Font, 12-point font, 1-inch margins.
