Each student will make a LIVE Three-minute persuasive presentation during our ZOOM chat on Thursday eveningJune 16th (you can work with a partner to deliver the presentation if you want and use the share screen feature on ZOOM to share any presentational aids).
You can select your topic but be prepared to explain why you think it’s relevant to our audience (the class). Think about your topic in terms of the result you want, such as:
I want to persuade people in my audience to wear a mask during the Covid crisis.
I want to persuade my audience to exercise every day.
I want to persuade my audience to get a dog.

Checklist (each item worth ten points)
Make clear to your audience your objectives for the presentation. Will you persuade the members of your audience to change their attitudes on your topic completely, or will you provide them with a greater understanding of your topic? Establish your credibility early (ethos, pathos, logos). The introduction is the best place to demonstrate that you know what you are talking about.
Make sure the audience can feel your passion and enthusiasm toward your topic. Often this can become “catching,” and your audience will be more persuadable. Maintain credibility with good eye contact and solid sources.
Your voice should be understandable and clear, and your tone and speed should be measured and appropriate.
Organize your presentation using one of the two patterns discussed in the textbook: problem-cause-solution or Monroe’s Motivated Sequence. In most persuasive presentations, propose two solutions to the problem. One solution should focus on a larger social change that could require new laws, policies, or widespread collaboration. The other should focus on what the individual audience member could do right after the presentation to help achieve the goals you set forth (e.g., calling a politician, writing a letter, donating money to a cause).
End with a strong conclusion and concluding device that sums up the argument. Leave the audience with a clear call to action.
