Learning Goal: I’m working on a business discussion question and need support to help me learn.Effective communication has three components: purpose, audience, and
perception. Purpose (what you want to convey with your message) and
audience (understanding the audience through thorough audience analysis)
are within your control as the communicator. Perception, however, is up
to the audience. That’s not to say the communicator does not have
control over perception because they certainly do. That’s where
intention comes in. The intention of your message is incredibly
important as it helps direct the audience’s perception. Word choice,
voice inflection and body language, and use of punctuation and visual
assistants (emojis, gifs, photos, and mechanical emphasis) all help
guide audience perception of a message. 1. In effective communication, which is more important: intention of communicator or perception of audience? Why?2. How important is it to guide the intention of a message? Does it
make a difference if the message is verbal, verbal and visual, or
written?3. What do you do to make sure your messages are perceived as
intended? Consider verbal only messages (phone or recorded voice
messages), verbal and visual messages (real-time/in-person or video
recorded messages), and written only messages (emails, text, instant
messages, etc.).4. Have you ever experienced a situation where your message was not perceived as intended? Discuss.
