Learning Goal: I’m working on a data analytics multi-part question and need an explanation and answer to help me learn. My Major: Business ManagementOnce you complete part 1 and send it to me, I will send you the post for part 2, (other students articled can’t be accessed until I complete mine)Assignment:In Part 1 of this assignment, you have an opportunity to research articles within your field of interest (i.e., your major) that have used Linear Programming (optimization) as a tool in their study. The purpose is to let you see that this tool is frequently used when seeking an optimal solution to a constrained problem. In Part 2 of this assignment, you can read your classmate’s posts and the articles they found, select one, and do some critical analysis on that article (not necessarily your classmate’s original post).Part 1 (Note: This is due about 2 weeks prior to Part 2 – use the course calendar for specific dates)Find an article in your major (posted in the last 5-6 years) that explicitly used Linear Programming, aka Optimization, (Solver, SAS, SPSS, or any other such tool) as part of its analysis.
Provide the URL to the article as a citation (other people must be able to easily access your source to do Part 2).
Identify the three components of the model: DVs, Objective Function, and Constraints in detail as best as you can. These should be descriptions, not the mathematical formulas: do not try to duplicate the solution itself in Excel.
Explain any unique constraints (integers, non-negative DVs, etc.)
Note that most articles do not present the entire model or all of the data; they merely discuss it in general terms. Therefore you must read the article closely to extract as much as possible. If the authors provide too little information about the technique, either try to find a different article or clearly mention this weakness in your post (such an omission is an ethical issue since readers cannot fully grasp or validate the claim being made).Part 2Read 3-5 posts AND their articles
Select one for your comments
Explain the potential for weaknesses in the model – or support why the model is good. You are not researchers, but write about what you have learned regarding of the primary characteristics of the model’s components such as missing variables, poor objective function, an excessive amount of variables, invalid or unreasonable constraints, etc.
Explain why you think the linear optimization did or did not support the article’s findings based on the technique(s) and data used as discussed in the article.
GradingNote that when both parts are added together, this is a significant assignment that is scored according to the corresponding Rubric (use the ellipsis at the top right to view).
