1. Clarity & Organization – Does it make sense? Does the paper flow in a logical
manner? Does the paper provide relevant and accurate information to the reader?
2. Summary of article key points
• Research topic (author, article title, & journal name) – stated succinctly
• Literature review (design/methodology, results, discussion) – Be sure to include the
main points of the study, type of research done, subjects used, variables and
operational definitions, and authors’ finding and conclusions.
• Subfield/Area of study – Include what area would be most interested in this study
(developmental, learning, memory, biological, sensation & perception, etc.) Why is
this so?
3. Critique of the article – Substantiate statements with examples! 30
• Research topic – Explain why the articles interested you and related to you. How
has this article changed your views?
• Conclusions/Implications – Does the paper articulate and summarize relevant and
supportable conclusions from the research? Are facts, conclusions, or claims
supported by credible sources?
• Recommendations for future research – What would you recommend the next step
be in this line of research? Should more research be done in this area? What could
be done differently? What other types of studies could be conducted? How could
this study be modified or altered?
• Critical Analysis – Does the paper demonstrate critical thinking in the treatment of
the subject matter, or just cut and paste from sources?
