David Wilson is a 35-year-old who suffered an anoxic brain injury related to a heroin overdose. The client will be discharged home with a gastrostomy tube. Your assignment is to teach his parents, Lola and Mateo, how to properly administer the tube feeding according to the provider’s order.
You can access David’s medical record by logging into thePoint (Links to an external site.) and accessing DocuCare. Your instructor has posted the DocuCare class code in an announcement. The title of the assignment in DocuCare is: Module 1: David Wilson. Inside his medical record you will find information about his past medical history, care he has received while in the hospital as well as the provider’s orders (under Orders).
Your teaching will be an oral recording that will be 3-4 minutes in length. You will upload your audio to the discussion forum for your peers to listen and respond to. Initial Post
In the initial post, you will demonstrate your ability to describe in detail all the relevant steps of a bolus tube feeding procedure to Mr. And Mrs. Wilson, so that they can perform those steps independently and confidently at home. The teaching should include assessment of toleration, side effects, the effectiveness of the tube feeding, and adverse effects that should be reported to the provider. In your teaching, please remember to consider culture, education of the patient/caregiver, and developmental needs (M1:03).
