What is the author’s argument?

1) What is the author’s argument?
2) Who or what arguments is the author arguing against? (This might help you with 1).
3) How is the author making their argument? What evidence does the author bring to bear and what kind of evidence is it?
You should try to identify these three elements before deciding whether you agree with the arguments or not.
4) There may be unfamiliar terms or technical jargon. See if you can discern whether this is a matter of vocabulary (a word you don’t know) or a matter of “insider jargon” that the author is using to refer to issues that are well known in their field. Register these questions and raise them in section.
HOWEVER!! do NOT place questions. Rather, make sense of the text to the best of your ability.
