You are to follow the instructions provided, complete the tasks outlined in each step and enter your answers in this quiz as instructed.
You will provide answers to these questions as indicated based on the results of the commands you will use.
Note that many Linux commands will not return any visible result or feedback from the system and this may be the proper response based on successful command completion.
Also, note that some commands may not work correctly if a previous command was not completed successfully. You will have to determine if the command you entered was successful. If the command was not successful, you may need to find the previous command that didn’t work and correct any earlier errors to make sure you successfully complete each step as you work in this lab.
If your command doesn’t work correctly it may be due to not entering the command correctly. You have to make sure you use the correct command syntax. A Unix/Linux command has various components, each separated by spaces.command
options
arguments
For example, the command to display files in the current directory is ls (this is lowercase letters L and S). There is an option to display additional information about each file, -l. And argument would be to list files in a specific directory such /homeThe command would be:ls -l /homeNote that there are spaces between command, the option and the argument. In other words, if I use to replace the spaces in the command I used in the example above, it would look as follows:ls-l/homeThis only shows were you would type in the space between the command elements, that that you would type in the characters. If your command doesn’t work as expected or you receive and error that there is “no such file”, it may be because you omitted some required spaces. Make sure the command you select for your answer does work correctly before your use it as your answer.
For answers where you have to respond with a statement of fact or observation, you answer must be in your own words, unless you are requested to provide citable content, in which case an MLA formatted citation must be provided. And your answer must be between 30 and 200 words.
