1. Selecting Your Individual Resource
In addition to the first source, each student individually needs to find a scholarly source that addresses the topic. This scholarly source needs to be a peer-reviewed empirical study (i.e., a study for which the authors collected data, analyzed them, and published the study in a scholarly peer-reviewed journal). Other academic publications such as literature reviews, meta-analyses, clinical guidelines, and theoretical / historical papers are not suitable. They might be used by the group for the Introduction and/or Discussion part. Further information will be posted about different forms of scholarly sources and how to identify peer-reviewed empirical studies. Be careful that you don’t choose an article from a so-called predatory journal (i.e., a non-scholarly fake journal).
IMPORTANT: Each student individually needs to submit on D2L an electronic copy (pdf-format) of the second source (i.e., the entire scholarly article) together with the individual assignment. The individual assignment and the source are submitted together in the Dropbox “Term Paper Individual Contribution”. Failure to do so will result in a substantial deduction of points or – in case the scholarly paper cannot be located – a failure for the individual part of the assignment. Further details will be provided.
You do not need approval for your sources. However, if in doubt, do not hesitate to contact the instructor. Using sources that are not suitable will result in a substantial deduction of points. Furthermore, you need to coordinate all the sources with your group members. All group members need to have different sources.
Important Note: When selecting your resources, make sure that you have all the information needed to fulfill the requirements of the assignment.
2. Summary and Analysis of Scholarly Sources (each student individually)
In this section, each student summarizes and analyses their source (source #2, the scholarly empirical study). The maximum length of this section is three (3) pages for each student.
The approach taken in this section is different from the one used for the analysis of the Popular Source. Here, you will focus more on the scientific/research content of the source. This means that the questions you will need to answer for this source are different from the ones the group addressed for the Popular Source.
This assignment needs to be double-spaced and standard 1 inch margins.
Times New Roman or Arial and 12-point
Make sure that you stay within the length restriction for this paper (see above). Please note that this guideline does not include your title page or reference page(s). Furthermore, do not fall for the idea that more writing (i.e., more pages) results in a better mark. The contrary might be true. Keep in mind that academic writing is concise and to the point (okay, admittedly, that should be the case).
In formatting this assignment, you need to use headings and subheadings (follow the above outline).
A deduction will be applied to all papers that exceed the length restriction (i.e., two percent deduction per each additional page). Therefore, be sure to work within the assigned page limit.
