Learning Goal: I’m working on a philosophy multi-part question and need a sample draft to help me learn.HOW TO WRITE: In this paper I want you to clearly state both what the author’s position is and what the argument for it is, i.e. what is the logic? What are some (one or two at most) arguments against it and how might the position respond? Ideally, in addition to the above YOU have some thesis, insight or opinion that you can give good reasons–either logical or textual–to support. However, you don’t have to force yourself to have an opinion of your own if nothing is coming to you (it is bad to be phony in writing, just as in life–and in both cases it is always noticeable). It is permissible to stick to exposition of the author’s position and argument. HOW I EVALUATE: I’m reading your papers for a combination of criteria: Logic, Written Expression, Understanding and Thought. Logic is about arguments, reasons, and relevant connections and distinctions. Written expression is about English, basically: good grammar, correct vocabulary, clear expression, non-causal but also non-pretentious tone and diction. Understanding just means did you understand what you read. This is essentially the question of whether you are saying something right or wrong about the author. Thought: a hard-to-teach and hard-to-explain but all-important aspect of good writing: in some way your own intelligence, your own curiosity or your own perspective or yearnings or something has to shine through and say to the reader that this is really you writing, that you are not just following orders for the sake of the approval of others. I know this doesn’t sound like a real criterion for good writing, but it is. Should be approximately 1200-1500 words (=5 to 6 pages or so). The paper should be double-spaced, times new roman, size 12 font, one-inch margins on all sides.
Requirements: 1200-1500 words
