Learning Goal: I’m working on a article writing discussion question and need an explanation and answer to help me learn.Debate 1Motion: “Overall, societies around the world have benefited economically from globalization. If countries were to restrict such processes as free trade and immigration, they would be worse off economically.”Each debate will center on a motion, provided by the instructor that pertains to the previous week’stopic. One side will argue in favor of the motion, whereas the other side will argue against it. The classwill be divided evenly across the four debates, with each student randomly assigned to one side(for/against the motion) of a single debate. This is not a group project. Instead, when it is their turn toparticipate in a debate, students will independently research one position that defends/refutes(depending on which side they are on) the debate motion and post a persuasive summary of thatposition to the discussion board, with citations to their evidence. Each participant will also reply to asummary posted by someone from the other side. Additionally, every student who did not participate inthe debate must post a reply to one of the persuasive summaries posted by one of the debateparticipants. Each summary must be at least 750 words long.
3) At least five outside sources (i.e., not a lecture or assigned video/reading) must be consulted and
cited for the summary.
4) A bibliography and in-text citations/footnotes must be included with all necessary information
(author, title, date of publication, publisher) for each source. No particular bibliographic style is
required.
5) Summaries must follow the standard persuasive essay format: introductory paragraph,
supporting-evidence paragraphs, concluding paragraph.
a. The introductory paragraph should introduce the topic, motion, student’s position on
the motion (for or against), and a summary of the student’s main points that support
their position.
b. Supporting-evidence paragraphs must focus on one main idea each, clearly support the
student’s position on the motion, and include citations for any ideas/information that
are not the student’s own (to not do so would be plagiarism).
c. Concluding paragraphs should restate the student’s position on the motion and main
points that support the student’s position.
6) Students must proofread their summaries for spelling and grammar. Any spelling and grammar
mistakes will be penalized.
Requirements: 750words
