Think about your reader and plan your content before starting the email.
1: Provide all necessary information (remind the reader how you know him or her and explain why you value his or her reference)
2: Let the reader know what you need him or her to do (write a letter, answer reference questions via a phone conversation) and if there is a deadline or expected date for the call
3: If the employer desires specific traits or skills, let the recipient know how you have worked to develop or use those traits and skills
4: Include a copy of your résumé
5: Thank the reader for his or her time and reference
Use the To: From: Date: Subject: memo format and upload your one-page request to Canvas by 11:59 p.m.
