Research Article Critique Assignment (100 Points)
Purpose: The purpose of this assignment is to acquaint you with the way psychologists conduct research and communicate their findings to each other in their respective disciplines. By doing this assignment you will learn how research results are presented in psychological journals by reading and critiquing a journal article (CLO 1, 2, 3, 5, & 6)
This assignment will assess the following course objectives:
Link the scientific method to the investigation of human issues by recognizing the methods that are used to explore human behavior and the essential features of experimental design.
Demonstrate knowledge of the key contributors, primary issues, and basic terminology in psychological study.
You will now summarize and critique the research study you chose in Unit 1, if your research study was approved.
Research Article Critique
This assignment should be a minimum of four pages not including the title page or reference page. Your critique should include the following:
Title Page – your running head, page number, your name, course, instructor’s name, and title of the article you are critiquing
Abstract- this is a brief summary of your entire paper (half a page)
Summary of the research study selected (approximately 1-2 pages)
Critique (approximately 1-2 pages)
Include a critique of the study’s methods and the researcher’s conclusions
Did the researchers use an adequate sample? Explain why or why not
Did the research provide enough information for someone else to replicate this study?
Did the researchers use appropriate data collection methods?
How you would have done the study differently, or provide alternative explanations of the results?
What is the contribution of this research study to the field of psychology?
Are the indicated conclusions well substantiated?
Reflection (approximately 1 paragraph)
Do you agree with conclusions, validity, applicability of the topic?
Reference list (You should have at least 2 references, the article that you are critiquing plus any additional references to support any claims you make).
