Your assignment is to determine a current event that you’re interested in researching , analyze 2 articles with differing viewpoints on your issue, and then connect this issue to 3 of the themes of our course (self, community, religion, nature, and government).
Step 1: Select your research question and make it into a question.
Potential Topics:
What are the actual causes of supply chain issues in your part of the country or world?
What is the cause of inflation?
How is inflation impacting people making under $200,000/year? Under $100,000/year? Under $50,000/year?
What would be the real result of a $15/hour minimum wage on the town you live in? (Look at minimum wage works AND the businesses in your area who hire minimum wage workers.)
What is the impact of working from home? (Look at impacts on: worker AND employer, and any other unintended consequences your encounter in your research.)
What is the impact of a shorter work week? (Look at impacts on: worker AND employer, and any other unintended consequences your encounter in your research.)
Has the increased connection of social media made us happier?
How have changing temperatures impacted farmers?
Have our behaviors contributed to increasing natural disasters?
How can communities in crisis begin to solve their own problems?
What are some changes corporations are making to improve the lives of their employees?
What is the impact of media hype in people’s reactions to the events like the pandemic, hurricanes, war, protests, etc.?
Step 2: Find 2 articles about your topic that consider it from differing viewpoints. (Please make sure that these are actual news or even editorial articles from reliable news sources, not tabloids, satire, or non-expert blogs. Copy and paste the links for the articles into your .docx or .pdf file.
Step 3: Answer the Critical Analysis Questions below for BOTH articles.
