People with master’s degrees can find employment once they finish, yet won’t have as much knowledge and expertise as those getting a doctoral degree. The two goals usually set forth for individuals getting a master’s degree are to get extra training and credentials to be able to enter a doctoral program, as well as to acquire skills and knowledge to go into a specific career or work environment. Going towards a doctoral degree you will gain a greater breadth of knowledge, as well as skills in a specialized subfield of psychology. There are PhD programs which are more focused on research, as well as PsyD programs which are more about the application of psychological science in providing services to people that are seeking it.
George Washington University is near to me and has PhD programs as well as PsyD programs. I find both of these branches interesting and am not too sure which focus I would like to go in yet. George Washington interests me because it has different and varied options in this field and is also not too far from me. Additionally, I have a few friends in graduate level psychology programs at this school.
