Q5: You did not address this dilemma in your submission. It would have been appropriate to address how this could be one of, if not the worst scenarios you could face as an investigator. This is particularly true if you are a Christian and ethical investigator as you would know that a “physical” interview might bring the admission you need to rescue this child but doing so would be unethical. Recognizing that taking action that you know to be unethical would make it that much more likely that you sway from your ethics in future cases where you could justify the need to protect the innocent as outweighing ethical behavior would have also been appropriate. Identifying that the appropriate action would be to continue to interview the suspect in the hopes of successfully learning of the location of the child using legal, ethical means would have been on point. Including the use of academic and biblical support to show that you can apply the course materials and scripture in the context of discussing ethics and excessive force would have also supported your work. One example of appropriate support would have been to consider the concept of “The Bell, the Book, and the Candle” as outlined in this week’s lecture notes. One example of appropriate scripture for this discussion would be Romans 2:1, “Therefore you have no excuse, O man, every one of you who judges. For in passing judgment on another you condemn yourself, because you, the judge, practice the very same things.”
Comments
Your submission included some appropriate discussion but would have benefited from additional analysis of the importance of appropriate conduct versus conduct unbecoming a criminal justice professional to demonstrate your ability to apply what you have learned, particularly in the context of ethics. You provided some appropriate examples in your discussion to further show your knowledge and understanding of the course materials.
You included one example of academic support, but did not make use of the course text (Pollock) to demonstrate your ability to apply what you have read and learned. You also had other opportunities to include additional support. You should be looking for opportunities to cite the course text (Pollock) and other course materials and academic sources as a means of demonstrating your ability to apply what you have read and learned.
Your submission did not include any biblical perspective or use of scripture to support your work. As a reminder, in addition to expanding your academic knowledge we are also working to develop your Christian worldview as a component of our class. Making use of scripture to demonstrate a biblical perspective on the academic issues will help you to see God’s continuing influence in today’s criminal justice system.
omments
Your submission was only 234 of the required 500 words. I appreciate your inclusion of an abstract, but an abstract is not required (or appropriate) for a 500 word essay. Focusing on answering the questions posed with detail would better support your work.
Please ensure that your submissions are between 500 and 800 words to maximize your ability to demonstrate what you have read and learned and to maximize your grade potential.
