1. You are tasked with creating a leadership team to tackle the challenges of racial disparity within a juvenile detention system. Having no guidelines for hire, what background of an individual(s) would you want on your leadership team?
The background of an individual wanted on the leadership team when tackling challenges of racial disparities within a juvenile detention system must meet a certain criterion. The first requirement is having experienced and witnessed cases of racial disparities. Experienced individuals will easily understand racial disparity challenges as they have encountered similar problems before. Thus, they will be in a better position to deal with the problems of racial disparities (Siegel & Welsh, 2016).
The second requirement will be open-mindedness. It is important to approach situations where racial disparities have occurred with an open mind to ensure individuals have varying perceptions of things. Lastly, individuals must be passionate about the topic. When tackling racial disparities, passionate individuals are more productive because they know what needs to be achieved (Evangelist et al., 2017).
