Introduction:
We have been through one of the largest global pandemics in history. Climate change has been cited as a factor (e.g., humans living in closer proximity to animals due to deforestation and urban sprawl). This paper will allow you the opportunity to dive deeply into the climate change topic.
PROMPT: Climate change is a scientific fact. Argue for one to three responses to slow, stop, or more effectively manage the climate crisis, without spending too much space in the paper summarizing the problem.
REPEAT: Don’t just repeat the the problem. Your instructor already knows the extent of the problem and has read many articles. Argue for actions governments and individuals should take to slow or stop climate change.
No Fake News or Fake Data
Source selection is a part of critical thinking, which is a part of the class, which makes it part of the grade. Use your sources or mine, but they must rank at or near the top- center of the Ad Fontes Media Bias Chart
A few examples of banned sources: No Fox News, No Newsmax; No Russia Today RT; No OAN; No Wikipedia; No online encyclopedias; textbooks are not ok only because that is just not done in college research papers. Use extreme caution with any sources connected to the fossil fuel industry (e.g., oil, gas; coal).
Content AND structure count. Besides critical thinking, as usual we need all the structural elements in place:
THESIS (see below tips)
TOPIC SENTENCES! (all body paragraphs–VERY important!!!)
DOCUMENTATION (in-text citation style preferred)
CONCLUSIONS (all body pars. need a conclusion + final par.)
Thesis tips:
Your thesis could be a one-sentence statement of the action that should be taken. Just remember that a thesis cannot be a simple fact. It must be an arguable claim. Lastly, the thesis should include a strong command word or phrase like must; ought to; need to; crucial to; imperative that; etc.
FRIENDLY ADVICE: Do NOT argue against climate change. That would be counter-factual to what institutions of higher education are founded on: The Scientific Method / Empiricism. Climate change is an internationally recognized scientific fact, regardless of what unreliable sources claim. Going against bedrock academic principles (e.g., empiricism, academic honesty, etc.) is unhealthy for a college student’s grade.
