The goal of this project is to consider the interaction between history and the present. How do we remember history? What do we choose to emphasize and why? Analyze the monument dedicated to the past. Evaluate how the monument represents this history in an approximately 3-page analysis as follows:

Does it adequately convey a sense of the history? **Demonstrate some knowledge of relevant
history. Use references to the textbook and/or other assigned course materials.
What controversies/debates have existed related to the monument (at least one specific source
should be referenced here).
What is of value in his monument? What might have been done differently? What is left out?
Conclusion (1 paragraph)
Provide your overall evaluation.
Does this monument effectively represent history?
If there is debate over removing the monument, do you think it should be removed? If it was
already removed, do you agree?
Sources –
Thoughtful use of at least TWO sources (in addition to class materials) that discuss the background and any controversies related to the monument.
