Need a revision for: In Reading Response One, you created an original argument based on a close reading of a primary text. For Reading Response Two, you will build on the skills that you practiced in Reading Response One. While you will still complete a close reading of a primary text and produce an original argument, this time you will do so by analyzing the primary text through the “lens” of a secondary source. The insight you gain from reading the primary text through this “lens” will be what you use to create your own original argument about the primary text. Step One: Select one (or, at most, two) of the primary texts that we have read so far in this class. Step Two: Select one of the scholarly articles provided on HuskyCT under Assignment Prompts > Reading Response Two > Scholarly Articles. Read this article and identify its main argument or arguments. Step Three: Apply the article’s argument(s) to the text(s) that you have selected in order to make your own argument about the text. This will require you to: o Use someone else’s argument as a tool with which to examine a primary text. o Draw individual ideas from a scholarly source in a responsible way that ensures you accurately represent the author’s original point. o Interact with a scholarly source while still producing your own original argument. § You do not necessarily need to agree with the scholarly article. You need to engage with the article (i.e. you need to understand and accurately represent its argument), but you could do this by showing how a text disproves the article’s argument.
