I want to hear much more from you and less from your sources. Some research reveals that boredom inspires curiosity; other studies show that curiosity is piqued by the new and unknown. Explain why these finding do not contradict each other. How would you apply these concepts in a classroom?

Gender stereotypes. Select a specific gender stereotype you disagree with, whether discussed in the textbook or not. Discuss this stereotype and why you feel strongly about it. Is there any truth to this stereotype? What is the evidence against it? Why do you think this stereotype persists?

Some psychological disorders are more common in women (depression, agoraphobia, and simple phobia) and some are more common in men (antisocial personality disorder and substance abuse.) Give some possible reasons for such gender differences in the prevalence of these disorders. Support your answer.

Answer the question in a thoughtful manner by telling me what you think about the topic. You will also include supporting material from your textbook and one other source (remember not to plagiarize–if it is not from you, be safe and cite) but keep those facts to a minimum. It is required that you cite your sources in parentheses after each instance or each use of material, not just at the end of the paragraph. To properly cite from our textbook, list your citation like (Ciccarelli & White, 2018.) If you cite from a web resource, you do so with the actual web address, (http://web.taftcollege.edu/academic/distance%20learning/index.shtml) To ensure full credit, make sure you have cited from your two sources somewhere in the body of your paper. Just listing them in the Works Cited page is not enough or appropriate.
Conclude with your own thoughts, feelings, or comments relevant to the question. Make sure I know the information is your own. Saying things like “I beleive . . .” or “This information makes perfect sense to me because . . .” is great.
Your paper is to be a minimum of 2 content pages up to a maximum of 4 content pages, typed, using Times New Roman font, 12-point font, double-spaced, with 1-inch margins on all four sides. Word of caution: many word processing programs will include an extra line when you start a new paragraph unless you use the Shift Enter keys. Do not include an extra line in between your paragraphs! APA format is just double spaced content, no extra line, no fancy font. Plain Jane! You may have to reset your computer program to get the 1 inch margins and no lines between paragraphs. If you are in question of your paper being long enough, go a bit longer. It is always better to be safe than sorry.
When you quote or paraphrase from the textbook or other source, please cite the author’s last name and year of publication in parentheses immediately after the quotation or paraphrase (Ciccarrelli & White, 2018) or (Jones as cited in Ciccarrelli & White, 2018) if you are citing from another person in our textbook. Also, use quotation marks when appropriate. If you quote or paraphrase (reword) from a source, then an embedded cite is to be placed in parentheses after each use of the material. Do not cite at the end of the paragraph. You cite after each sentence used. If you are going to use a long quote or several sentences, then indent the paragraph on both sides and then you can cite at the end of that paragraph, but remember, I don’t want lots of cited material used. I want to hear more from you! Just talk to me like you would if we were sitting down for a cup of coffee and having a chat. Using examples from your own life or the experiences from others is helpful too.
Important point: If you use a web source as an alternate source, include the URL (the exact web site address-for example: if you were using an article from Wikipedia on self esteem, you would not just list it as wikipedia.org but use the whole address http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Self_esteem) as your citation at the end of the sentence(s) and provide a link to the source in your Works Cited page. If the website has an author or organization, you can use this to cite with, along with publication date instead of the URL. I will accept either one. Make sure the information comes from a reliable source. By the way, I don’t recommend using Wikipedia. I will only accept this source if it is reliable. You are better off using something different, such as the APA website.
Include a Works Cited page. Look at Module 0 to see what this page should look like. DO NOT number your sources and make sure you include a title of the web page if you use one. You can also look at the sample paper! (Hmm, I keep saying this. I wonder why?)
Be respectful and take pride in your work. Proof read each paper carefully, and make any necessary corrections. I am not an expert on grammar and I am the world’s worst speller, so I do not mark down for a few simple mistakes. If you are sloppy or it appears you don’t care, watch out! Remember what bugs me, i when you mean to use capital I. Do not rely upon the computer to identify every spelling or grammatical mishap. It is helpful to read your paper out loud to yourself a day or two after you have written it. This allows you to notice confusing or awkward phrasing and to have ample time to make corrections and improvements yet still meet the due date. Having someone else read your paper can be very beneficial.
