Early Natives and Colonizers, shared great diversity based on culture in the food they ate and shared. For this short assignment, you will be required to partake in our own class version of the TV show Chopped.
Listed below is an assortment of ingredients/foods that were enjoyed by early Natives and Colonizers. You will need to research and create a dish that you and your lucky family and friends (if possible) will partake in. You must use at least 5 ingredients from the list below, with at least one from every column. As part of this assignment, you will either:
write a review (300 words minimum) of the meal you created, which includes a short history of the dish, a history of the ingredients as they relate to Texas and a picture of the final product; OR
record a small video of you making the dish, telling me the history of the ingredients and dish, and cooking/tasting it.
Now, this is a dish you must cook yourself, no cheating by ordering out. Grade is not contingent on the dish coming out tasty, it is contingent on you following the directions laid out above—creativity matters (i.e. don’t just throw 5 random ingredients on a plate and call it a day). Please email me if you have any questions. Good luck and have fun!
Note: I included the 5th column of ingredients that either originated in Texas or are Texas staples for fun and creativity purposes. If you are a vegetarian, substitute the Meat ingredient with another ingredient from a different column, just make sure you note this in your paper.
