Gender, Race, and Class Final Paper
In this paper, I am asking you to describe yourself through your social identities in relation to gender, race, class. This is your opportunity to think about how those three identities have shaped your life experiences moving through the world and how you in turn view our society. This is not an autobiography in the sense that you need to explain every major moment in your life. Instead, this paper asks you to describe your social identities, reflect on the influencing forces in your life (i.e. family, school, peers, religious affiliation, etc.) and describe how you navigated the world because of these identities and how you view the state of our society.
For instance, if I were to respond to this paper, I would write about navigate the world as a Black woman who grew up low income. I could talk about how my school settings made me feel uncomfortable as a Black child, how being at a private school especially showed me how differently people live due to finances, and how often I encountered stereotypes from teachers. You can choose one area of your life to focus on this paper to provide a deep analysis of how your three identities impact your life. Additionally, you are asked to use at least three course references to help demonstrate how your lived experiences are impacted by your identities. You can use readings or videos to provide further context to how you describe your lived experiences through the lens of gender, race, and class.
