Write an essay of no more than 1250 words, single-spaced, addressing the
following. Note that the answers do not need to be of equal length. The answer to the first question must
be robust and detailed, but the answer to the second should be longer.
First: What is the technoscience, and how does it relate to technology and to science? How does
the documentary The Day After Trinity demonstrate the concept of technoscience and some concerns with
it? You should draw from and make multiple specific references to the relevant readings / documentary
and relevant historical examples, but you should not simply copy or paraphrase them: as an essay exam
you should be putting things in your own words (apart from supporting quotes).
Second: The Connections video clip (“The Trigger Effect”), Dreyfus essay, and Winner essay are
all concerned with technology in some way; technology is a problematic thing for each, but the way in
which it is differs. How and in what way is technology a problem to them? Critically compare their views
on this. In doing so explain the relevant parts of the theories (including relevant ideas and statements in
“The Trigger Effect”). Finally, which of the three do you think is the least compelling, and, because
we’re philosophers, why? Again, you should draw from and make multiple specific references to the
relevant readings / documentary and relevant historical examples, but you should not simply copy or
paraphrase them: as an essay you should be putting things in your own words (apart from
supporting quotes).
