For this essay you will “evaluate” three reviews of staged performances of Eugene O’Neill’s play Long
Day’s Journey into Night.
these are the 3 reviews: (https://www.nytimes.com/2022/01/25/theater/long-days-journey-into-night-review.html), (file:///C:/Users/camya/Downloads/Long_Days_Journey_Into_Night.PDF), (file:///C:/Users/camya/OneDrive/Desktop/ldjin%20mm.pdf)
A review is typically a short article written about a book, movie, TV series, work of art, a restaurant,
or for the purposes of this assignment, a play; the purpose of a review is to evaluate the quality of the
performance, to identify what is good and/or bad about it, thereby helping the reader to decide
whether it’s something worth experiencing for himself. Reviewers usually have some credential or
background that gives them the authority to make such judgments.
In the body paragraphs you will evaluate the credibility of each source based on the criteria presented in the PowerPoint lesson on Evaluating Sources. You will provide relevant details about the publication, writer, and content of the review. For example, is the publication popular or academic? What are
the writer’s credentials? What can be said about the writer’s credibility based on the content of the
review?
Finally, conclude the essay with a paragraph or two that ranks all three sources based on their
credibility. Even if all of them are very good—and they probably will be—which one do you think is
the most appropriate for an academic audience? Which one is the least appropriate? This involves
making several claims of value, so make sure to give your reader reasons for your judgment.
