1. Hi All,
MVS, motivational value system, is a term used in business to describe different approaches to communication in the workplace. The “blue” (Cardon 2020) approach is considered more of a nurturing technique to motivate, but this could be seen as someone who just agrees with anything said. A blue person needs to feel accepted and appreciated and does not want to be seen as selfish. The “green” (Cardon 202) communicator is someone who analyzes everything. They must apply logic and fairness but don’t want to be mistaken for someone who is overly emotional. According to P. Cardon (2020), the Hubs communicator is “friendly, flexible, social, and fun.” They can be perceived as indecisive but thrive with their flexibility in a good team environment. The “red” (Cardon 2020) value system is a more direct and decisive way to communicate. The red person is going to be direct and decisive with opinions and solutions to any given issue and they do not want to be seen as someone who doesn’t have an opinion. I would say I am 50% red based on the way I communicate with others. I am direct, and decisive, and want the task completed so we can move on to something else. I thrive in a fast-paced environment. However, I can be seen as uncaring in the way I communicate, sometimes, because I don’t believe in coddling people. I identify with a green communicator, about 30% because I like to analyze and apply logic to everything. If co-workers, friends, and family are honest about what they want and who they are, we would be much better off. I’m loyal, confident, fair, and flexible but I believe being direct about what you want out of life is the only way to be.
Thanks,
Jenn

Motivational value systems (MVS) are a person’s aims and principles that shape how they communicate and interact with others. Based on the tables provided by Peter Cardon (2020), I identify with having a green MVS with secondary blue MVS traits; this indicates that I am analytical with altruistic undertones. My green score was 57% while my blue score was 43%. Organization, efficiency, and self-reliance are all ideals that I personally exhibit both in my professional and personal lives. These skills are particularly important to my current career because I have a role that deals with data, analytics, and crisis situations; however, I also identify with the blue characteristics of being devoted and wary of those who do not acknowledge the assistance received from others. I expect others to exhibit the same loyalty and commitment that I give to them and to our work. Relationship awareness is closely tied to emotional awareness in that they both align with how interpersonal skills are used daily in our interactions with others. We use these skills to steer scenarios we find ourselves in while identifying the best way to decipher verbal and nonverbal communications from others and respond to them (Lane and Smith, 2021). It is important to know which value system and emotional awareness system one relates with because it will lead to a better understanding of the way they communicate and how others perceive them.
