This is a division and classification paper.
An example would be this: a Super Bowl party might have the Huge Fan who knows all the stats, the Guy Who’s Just There for the Commercials, The Girlfriend Who was dragged by her Boyfriend, the Guy who Talks about his own Glory Days the Whole Time. These are types of people specific to a Super Bowl party and it helps to show what the point of the party is. You’re not going to have someone just there to watch commercials at a New Years Eve party.
At the same time, avoid the generic Drunk Guy. Yes, I realize many parties may have Drunk people, but that’s not what I’m looking for. I want you to be more creative and, most importantly, more specific. What type of person would only be at that type of event?
The point of the paper is to clearly divide and classify these people using quality descriptions that make us not only see them but also better understand the party.
That said, you are not writing the story of going to one of these parties. Instead, think of yourself as a magazine writer, perhaps, explaining what the party is like to someone who’s never been. How would you explain the Mardi Gras crowd to someone in Montana who’s never been and only knows New Orleans, flashers, and beads?
Remember the importance of the general and specific.
General: Class clowns are usually the extrovert who likes to make the class laug
h, either at their own or the teacher’s expense.
Specific: A perfect example of a class clown is Steven. Steven makes sure that his entrance into every class is noticed, whether it be the time he came to class in a tank top announcing summer’s arrival in December, or if he’s wearing all black and obviously trying to sneak in late. While some students find his act humorous, Steven knows he has to continue to up his game to keep everyone interested.
FOR THE OUTLINE:
What you’re doing is naming the type of party you’re working with, giving a list of at least 5 different types of people there, and giving a brief description of each type of person.
