Now that you have collected insects, mounted them, and took a few pictures of the finished collection, it is time to start creating some poster figures. We will start Figure 2 (we will add to this figure as we work through the research project), and complete poster Figure 3. Figure 3 will have three parts, 3A, 3B, and 3C, and each part will be described in figure three’s figure legend (just like figure 1). You will add these figures to the Poster template that has a revised Figure 1 inserted. In addition, you will start listing summarizing your results in the
Figure 1
Using the feedback you received from the Figure 1 assignment, up date Figure 1 and its figure legend.
Make sure you properly cite your image and list that citation in the reference section of the poster. Find the link below that describes the AMA citation format that we will be using in this course.
Figure 3
Add Figure 3 to the poster.
Make sure Figure 3 and it’s subparts have figure titles.
General Figure 3 Title will answer the following questions: What was done, where it was done, and how many were collected?
Figure 3A title will answer the following questions: Where were insects collected, and how you would describe the location
Figure 3B title will answer the following questions: What is the collection climate, and what was the weather?
Figure 3C title will answer the following questions: What was accomplished in the expedition, How many were collected, and by whom?
Figure 3A: Will have the map image of the “pinned” collection site as well as an image of you collecting insects. You must be recognizable in the collection image.
Figure 3B: Will be a table that contains all of the information regarding the collection site (refer to the collection document you completed on the previous web page).
Figure 3C: Will be the images of your mounted insect collection, and you holding the collection. Indicate which insect you will identify to insect Order in the next module.
Include a Figure 3 figure legend.
Restate the General figure title (in bold)
For each figure
Use a bold number and letter to indicate which subfigure (3A, 3B, and 3C) you are discussing in the legend)
Use a concise sentence (or two) to describe each subfigure (3A, 3B, and 3C). In the description state the key take home message of the figure and each subfigure. In short, answer this question “What one message (i.e., take home message) do you want the reader to focus on in the figure and subfigures?”
Figure 2
We will worry about figure titles and figure legends at the end of the term for this figure, but we will build this figure as we go along. This figure will depict the methods used in this research project. The images are grouped by the types of tasks you will do: Field work, Simulations, and Bioinformatic/Computer analysis, and the arrows show the order these tasks will be accomplished.
The image below depicts how I want you to organize this figure. For each task you will find a separate image. These can be images you took, or they can be downloaded from the internet (or other sources). If they are your images, they cannot be used any where else in the poster.
Insert your image and make sure you title the image properly. Also make sure it is organized by type of activity.
You will cite each image (and all of your sources) using the AMA citation format (follow the link to a 2 page description of the format and examples on how to cite various types of information). If you are citing your own drawing or picture, you will:
In the body of then poster cite the image making sure it is in numerical order in which the cited image or source appears chronologically in the poster by using superscript Arabic numerals (1, 2, 3, …).
In the citation reference list (towards the end of the poster template) all citations are listed numerically in the order in which they appear in the poster. Use single spacing within the citation and double space between citations. DO NOT superscript the number.
When citing your own work in the reference list you would:
Use the next number in the numerical sequence
State your last name, First Initial (e.g., Doe, J.) followed by a comma, and then state “Personal Communication”. In this case the citation might read “2. Doe, J., Personal Communication.

Conclusion
State a single bullet point in the conclusion section of the poster summarizing the result of the insect collection
How many collected, from where, and method used
Your updated poster is due by 10 pm on Saturday 7/2 (at this point the poster will have Figure 1, start of Figure 2, and Figure 3). Upload the document into this dropbox file.
