Include citations in current APA format for each example and use the examples to support your description of the similarities and differences between basic and applied research.

NOTE: If the article you selected does not identify how the data was statistically analyzed (e.g., t-test, ANOVA, ANCOVA etc.), it is likely that this article is either not a quantitative study or not an actual research report but a summary of a study, in which case you must select another article.

The critical analysis should include opportunities for further research not already listed in this article, threats to validity or undocumented bias, other original insight or criticism and implications of the findings. A reference page must be included. All citations should be listed in current APA format.

Your review must include 2 sections: (1) a summary of the article, and (2) a critical analysis of the article. Because applied research could be either quantitative or qualitative in nature, you must be able to distinguish the correct characteristics in order to include the correct components. All articles must be of studies conducted and published in the United States or Canada within the past 5 years. The summary must include a discussion of whether the article is more quantitative or qualitative in nature and/or if program evaluation or action research is applicable, the purpose of the study, a description of the participants/sample/setting, the research design (quantitative – experimental, quasi-experimental, correlational, regression, etc. or qualitative analysis – narrative, grounded theory, case study, phenomenology, ethnography, etc.), the method of data collection (quantitative – survey, test, questionnaire, etc. or qualitative – questionnaire, document analysis, observation, open-ended or structured interview, etc.), analysis, and the results. The analysis must include opportunities for further research not already mentioned in the article, threats (to validity, credibility, transferability, dependability, and/or confirmability), other original insight or criticism and implications of the findings.
