I think that as economic uncertainties and inflationary pressures continue to mount, retirement benefits will become increasingly important to members of organized labor. People will desire this form of security for their futures. Additionally, in a world of constantly increasing competition and technological evolution, I believe that education/training/promotional opportunities will be viewed as increasingly important to workers. I have hired many individuals in the past that stated in their interview that their reason for leaving their current employer and seeking employment with our company was because they saw more opportunity for growth and advancement in our larger, more sophisticated organization. I can relate to their thinking on this, as I also always want to be in a position where I see opportunity to advance and grow. Of course, there are strong monetary reasons why people feel this way, but I believe that on an emotional level, people need to feel that there are possibilities for them. This contributes to creating purpose, motivation, and general happiness.
I think that conversation will increase surrounding childcare benefits. Solving the childcare dilemma, often for the working mother, is a huge issue and would provide tremendous value to workers and their families. Often, capable mothers that would positively contribute to the workforce do not take on jobs because of the high costs of childcare and the fact that their wages would essentially be consumed by such. If companies could provide a benefit to address this concern, it would, in my mind, be huge to many people that very much desire to be in the workforce and earning for their families. I certainly can think of people in my life that this scenario applies to. Perhaps others can relate to these comments with people in your life or that you have come across?
