Project Overview:
This presentation assignment will provide an opportunity to explore a topic of interest via a peer-reviewed journal article and will assess your ability to convey information from a peer-reviewed journal article. The assessment will focus on three distinct domains: Comprehension, Organization, and Communication.
Comprehension will constitute your ability to read, review, understand and explain the experimental components of your chosen study.
Analysis and Communication will reflect your ability to verbally discuss and inform others about the notable and pertinent details of the experimental study you chose.
The organization will reflect your ability to put together a concise and comprehensive presentation that conveys to the audience all of the important components of the study that you examined.
The presentation will be done individually. Each student’s responsibilities include research of their topic, construction of their slides, and presentation of their topic without outside aid via both visual slides and audio recording. While students are permitted to have work be peer-reviewed or review others’ work, all information must have been gathered by each student or be original to that student. There is a chance that some information could cross between classmates (we’re using the same articles, after all) but by no means should two projects have any verbatim wording (you should be using original wording anyway to avoid plagiarism!). This project will be completed on PowerPoint (if a student does not have access to PowerPoint, they are expected to inform the instructor as soon as possible so that the instructor may address it).
These presentations will also include an audio component – you will either complete a screen recording of your presentation OR attached an audio file to it. This will count as your ‘presentation’ component and will help demonstrate to me your learning.
Resources should minimally include the peer-review article chosen by each student. It is greatly encouraged to cite more than one source. Students are not restricted to the aforementioned resources, but resources need to be highly credible/trusted and should be available to everyone in the class.
Project Standards:
Cover the details relevant, key topics thoroughly within the selected topic
Minimum 7 slides (Title Slide, Introduction/Background, Methods, Results, Applicability to Course, Conclusions/Discussion, and Reference/Resource slides). Maximum 13 slides
Time limits range: 5-9 minutes MAX (you can go less than 5 minutes if necessary, but don’t speed through it and compromise content because points will be lost!)
Must follow APA (7th ed.) format standards for in-text citations, slide references, and presentation reference
Use a singular, common font, (Times New Roman, Arial, or Calibri)
Reference and Resource slide is required
When presenting, the voice must be able to be clearly heard. Cue cards may be used, but not relied on.
To include a participation piece, there will be discussion submissions to cover responses to other presentations
The presentation will be on the file that is attached.
