We are Responsible
Progress is a double-edged sword. Perhaps this may be the most advanced era with the best quality of life; however, it comes at a high cost to our planet. Electricity, industries of various products, the expansion of the human race, and so on lead to the destruction of the environment and those who inhabit it, are some of the most remarkable consequences of the human footprint. Unfortunately, the human race is too comfortable with advancement, and a single step back to the old ways of life turns them unbearable. Many of our activities do slow but progressive damage to planet earth. Moreover, those who see themselves making a change are laughed at and criticized. People are no longer willing to sacrifice. A dilemma is who should take the first step. Should it be our children or ourselves? Taking the first step is crucial for future generations to follow our example. In less than 200 years, the damage has been irreversible. Disappearing or burned forests, extinct or endangered animals, and uninhabitable places may not affect us directly now, but in the future, they will alter our lives someday. The phrase “the future is irrelevant” will not work. If our planet becomes uninhabitable globally, we have nowhere to go. We are talking about the possible extinction of every living thing on the Earth’s surface. Indeed, change must be slow. The process could be divided into phases, as many as necessary. Eventually, acclimate the masses and move on to the next level. The future is uncertain; we do not know what the sacrifice will be, how our habits will change, and how our lives will change. Time invested in making progress must be the same or greater to renew the planet.
