Virtual Exchange Programme
IUT de Bordeaux / Richland College
Participants:
Geoff Manzi; Professor of Philosophy; School of Humanities, Fine and Performing Arts;
Richland College; Dallas, Texas
Thierry Villard, Language Teacher, Materials and Science Engineering department
Iut de Bordeaux.
Aim:
To afford students from different academic backgrounds, cultures, and geographic
locations an opportunity to exchange perspectives on certain societal/ethical themes by
selecting a particular to explore together, thereby deepening their intercultural skills and
developing their interdisciplinary understanding of ethical aspect of key societal issues in
their context.
Organization:
International teams of American and French students will be organized for them to work
together and exchange on current societal issues with an emphasis on their ethical
implications – Please see the spreadsheet that indicates the student groups… and reach
out to your group partners immediately to begin the collaboration! I would recommend
‘replying’ to your partner’s FlipGrid video with your email address and a pleasant greeting
– from there, y’all can then determine your own preferred method of communication
moving forward.
*Communication note: there is a 7 hour difference between the USA and Bordeaux.*
Topics:
Please choose a topic of exploration/investigation that follows under one of the following
umbrella topics (ie feel free to either stick with a topic generally or hone in on a more
specific facet or example thereof).
– Their city/state in terms of architecture, history/geography; fine art and performance
venues
– Talking about their social institutions: education system; prison system; welfare system;
health care system
– Environmental issues such as transport (use of cars, bikes)/ recycling/plastic pollution/
sea or river pollution/sorting waste …
– Everyday life: food, anything to do with students life..
– Any topic related to their age, occupations.
Activities:
– The group project could take on any form of presentation – some examples include (but
are certainly not limited to) a co-authored essay; a power point presentation; a recorded
podcast; an animated video; a digital poster board; a website/blog. I encourage everyone
to think creatively!
– Aside from the group project, each student will produce two short video documents. In
the first one, they will introduce themselves to the others. In the last one, they will share
their thoughts and offer feedback on the experience.
