Option One: Write an analytic paper on the Intelligence Community. You will write about
the mission and challenges of three (3) agencies and choose two (2) that are of interest to
you. Be sure to note your skills for that agency. Your primary source: material posted on
Canvas regarding intelligence careers and a search of the agency websites, such as:

 Dia.mil
 Intelligencecareers.gov
 Nga.mil
 Fbi.gov
 Dhs.gov

And you can also check out sources in the great FIU Library, which can be especially
helpful with Choice Two.
Option Two: Prepare a research paper on a national security topic. The possibilities are too
numerous to mention here. The FIU library and posted course material should help get you
started on your research. If you are seeking a topic, consider the issues we’ve approached
during the semester, such as:
 Climate Change
 Hybrid War
 US Foreign Policy
 Globalization
 Human Security
 Intelligence as a tool in national security
 Congressional Oversight in national security
 The Media in National Security
 Threat issues as noted in the National Security Strategy
 Globalization
 Nuclear Issues
 Cyber-warfare

Please remember: the research paper option must address a national security issue. (One of
the issues in the course!) For example, a trending topic is climate change. But I am not
expected a previous paper on climate change. Rather, you might consider how climate
change impacts the US military or immigration, or world stability. I don’t mind if you use
previous research. However, your paper should be current, timely, and relevant. If you
have questions, please ask before the paper is due. Or, you might consider writing a rough
draft for me to review.
