15 slide power point presentation on Do Not Resuscitate, what it is? What it means? How to become one?
This presentation is less structured than we usually assign. It should reflect the ethical problem of your subject (DNR) in light of the issues of aging. As clinicians we are faced with many moral issues that confront people as they grow older. When you think about ethics, you should consider autonomy, respect, dignity, and justice. As an example, if your patient requests that no heroic procedures are performed should he become critically ill, the problem of respect of his autonomy comes up when the family disagrees with his decision. This is very true in DNR status as well as when a patient chooses a healthcare proxy who must abide by his wishes.
This presentation allows you to be creative with the problem you have chosen. It is meant to get you, and subsequently your classmates to think about this moral issue. There is no right or wrong answer. Make your case and engage your audience. You can present your issue by using a case study for specific problems, as well as recognizing the prevalence of the problem as the aging population increases. Research the effect of attitudes and belief systems on the subject…both from the patient’s as well as the clinician’s point of view. We all enter the situation with our own baggage. Talking about it (as in your presentation) will help us all come to terms with this topic.
