Topic
This week you will refine your population and problem and compare your findings of this problem to local, state, and national data. Consider how the nurse might help them avoid further development, or disease progression (primary, secondary prevention measures). To start your search and interest you might look at your community assessment, or look at the information in your local public health department websites, the CDC, (CDC Wonder databases and Healthypeople 2020, 2030), and other evidence-based websites that the CDC supports.
Refine the health data about the issue that affects your population group, using scholarly professional literature to support your ideas about the population at risk. Look for data at the local, county, or state public health websites. Some examples of health data you might consider are epidemiologic information related to health conditions, reproductive outcomes, causes of death, vital statistics, socioeconomic data including poverty and/or educational levels, quality of life issues, and or lack of access to health care due to health insurance or access to providers. You should compare the data with state and national trends to fully understand the extent of the problem with the population.
Describe the specific health problem and population you have selected
What data did you find to support your decision? What useful health data and public health websites did you use?
INSTRUCTIONS FROM STUDENT:
This post adds on to the information from my week 1 post, pasted below:
“Cancer is one of the leading causes of death in San Francisco. Because it is a city, the average lifestyles of different people have been influenced by their poor diet and health conditions. The flashy urban way of life has significantly contributed to San Francisco residents’ declining health levels. Food-related cancer is one of the most common types of cancer that affects these people. Mostly, the inorganic foods sold in various stores throughout the city have been preyed on by busy travelers and city workers (Hiatt et al., 2018). There has been no consistent consumption of organic foods to help boost their immunity. As a result, there has been an increase in cancer-related mortality rates. The urban population is particularly vulnerable to the spread of this disease. Because the majority of San Franciscans live completely advanced lifestyles, it has been simple to gain access to these inorganic foods and adopt unhealthy living standards. As a result, these people are diagnosed with this deadly disease. Concerning health issues, the average cost of healthcare has skyrocketed (Boison & Yegutkin, 2019). Because of the high levels of development and production of more inorganic foods, the number of people diagnosed with cancer in San Francisco has also increased. Furthermore, because of their poor health, these individuals have found it difficult to make progress. Some of the issues that have arisen as a result of these new patterns include an increase in cancer mortality rates and deaths, as well as general suffering and misery among San Francisco residents.”
