We have asked you to contemplate the human dimension of water resources this week with a lecture, a survey, and several assigned articles. After you have completed this week’s assigned reading/viewing, please submit a 500-750 word (minimum) essay that aligns with the weeks topic, “how we think about water” (this is just the topic – choose your own title). Please remember to submit only your own work (Turnitin is enabled). Choose the perspective for your essay after reflection on the week’s assigned content and make it personal to the extent that you are comfortable. You may also want or need to do a bit of your own research for your essay (please cite your sources, if you do so). We suggest composing your essay on a word processor and copying or pasting it into the assignment window (this way you won’t lose your work), and don’t forget to click “submit” when you are finished. You might consider one of the following perspectives for your essay (feel free to go with something else): Choose one aspect of water equity or environmental justice; and describe how this aspect relates to vulnerable populations, geographic scales or types of community organizations. What personal experiences have you had and what specific approaches may be applicable to mitigate this aspect of inequity? Of the cultural, philosophical and/or faith-based perspectives of water presented in the assigned readings, which perspective(s) speak to you, and why? Which of the 4 water ethics perspectives do you most identify with, and why? What does “water denial” mean and how does it play out in your own community, Minnesota or some other location that you are familiar with? Write about your own faith-based, culture-based, or other-based perspective of water. Describe the basis for this perspective and what your experience has been. What does it mean to you to have a “sea ethic” or a water ethic? What is “water denial” and do you see this in your own experience? Find your own article on human perspectives of water/water resources and summarize the theme and findings of the article, and why it is of interest to you (don’t forget proper citation).
