Hello Everyone,
To develop this presentation outline I started by analyzing the situation. I answered the ‘who, what, when, where’ questions. Who am I speaking to? What am I trying to accomplish? When would I like to accomplish this? Where do I go to get there? To convince people to part with their hard earned money to invest in an already failed business will take some planning. After reading our textbook, I decided that the linear presentation would be best as they have a predefined flow from start to finish. I need to get the audience fired up about this project by having a strong introduction and keep them fired up in the body. The close is important. I need to keep them thinking about it even after I am done making my presentation so that they feel good about investing into Kmart. I am going to go with the nostalgic approach and bring back the carefree days of childhood. To assist with this, there will be pictures of Kmart and happy people shopping there playing behind me from the decades that Kmart was in business.
Kmart: Bringing Back a Classic
Purpose: To convince potential investors that investing in Kmart would be beneficial for them and the economy.
Introduction:
1: Start with a personal story of how it felt to go shopping with my mom at Kmart. Appeal to the senses. How it looked (the comfort of seeing the big red K), what you heard (people talking, kids laughing, blue light specials over the intercom), how the food tasted and smelled, and how you would touch the toys wishing you could have them all). “Sensory marketing contains a set of strategic decisions focused on the sense’s stimulation in the public. When these decisions are taken on the point of sale, the public accomplish a full experience that brings them close to the product that they are evaluating, motivating in this way the final purchase” (Jimenez-Marin, et. al., 2019).
2: Introduce myself: give credentials to build trust with the audience
3: Summarize the main ideas: Nostalgia, Convenience, and Economics
Body:
1: Nostalgia:
a. The history of Kmart. Where and when it started.
b. Part of our culture: Mentioned in movies (Rain Man, Beetlejuice), Name dropped in songs (Eminem, Beastie Boys, Hall and Oates)
2. Convenience:
a. One stop shopping: they have a little bit of everything, time saver from having to go to multiple stores.
b. Kmart Café: quick and easy meal with all of the comfort foods.
3. Economics:
a. Good quality, reasonably priced (From clothes to food to everything you need for your home, inside and out).
b. Blue Light Specials: (hot prices on every day items for a short period of time).
c. Kmart Café: Feed your family without worrying about your budget.
Closing:
1: Summarize the 3 main points.
2. Memorable ending with the right tone telling them how they can invest.
