Write a ~750 – 900 word (3 page) reflection based on the following prompt:
Read the following article below and watch the accompanying video on the Government of Canada’s 1989 decision to purchase Barnett Newman’s painting, “Voice of Fire.” Here is a link to the video/article:

Based on the reading and video, answer all three (3) of the following questions using the concepts and values discussed in our readings on art and aesthetics.
Write your assignment in the style of a short reflection paper, rather than responding to each of the questions in an individual and disconnected style.
Here are the questions:
1. Apply one or more of the three major theories of art (imitation/representation, expression, and form) to explain what makes “Voice of Fire” a work of art.
(For this question, you should reference Slowik’s lecture notes on Noel Carroll’s book, ‘Philosophy of Art.’ These are located in the previous week’s module, although here is a link to the lecture notes: http://course1.winona.edu/eslowik/artnotes.html
2. Your Uncle Dave does not consider ‘Voices of Fire’ to be a work of art. Suggest a reason why your uncle believes this. Then, using Danto’s concept of the ‘artworld,’ explain to your uncle why he is wrong.
(For this question, you may reference Kenton Harris’s lecture notes on Danto. Here is a link: https://faculty.fiu.edu/~harrisk/Notes/Aesthetics/Art%20World/Institutional%20Theories%20of%20Art-%20Artworld.htm
3. Explain to your uncle that although our judgments about whether a work of art such as ‘Voices of Fire’ is valuable (beautiful or ugly, or even whether it should be considered art at all), it nonetheless may be possible for our judgments about art to change and improve.
(For this question, you should reference Hume’s views on taste and beauty. Use the following encyclopedia entry as the basis of your response to this question:
