After working for a few years at North Perry Airport, Alex has finally been named a project manager. His first project is the expansion of the aviation facilities at the airport. Alex intended to jump in with both feet, and no wasting time on preliminaries. Consequently, when one of his team members asked when he planned to have the project kickoff meeting, Alex responded, “We don’t need a kickoff meeting—let’s just get to work.” Seeing that his team member was taken aback, Alex asked him to explain why he thought they needed to have a kickoff meeting.
In this scenario, Alex is so anxious to get started on his project that he plans to skip preliminary activities such as the kickoff meeting. One of his team members who is surprised at his decision has been asked to justify the need for a kickoff meeting. Put yourself in this team member’s place. How would you explain the need for a kickoff meeting?
